Scholarships

It is the begining of the second nine weeks and all students know that I have posted any and all scholarship information that I have received in their senior english classes. I will continue to do this all year long. The practice today by most scholarship committees is to send an informative letter to the school with a web-site address attached to it. I have informed all Vanoss Senior students to go on-line and print off these scholarship applications. Most Vanoss students who go to college eventually enroll in East Central University.  A student is automatically entered into the ECU scholarship pool once they make application to the university.  Students may make application at any time. It is important that they do this no later than February 1st so that they may be entered into the first round of their scholarship competition. We have posted dates on our school's calendar of upcoming college recruiter visits. We will attend an ECU college fair on October the 29th. Students will have an opportunity to visit with any college recruiter of their choice. Their will also be Junior College and military recruiters present.  Students need to have taken the ACT at least once by December. Students may sign up for the ACT by visiting www.act.student.org This is the on-line application. I have been directing students to sign up by using this process. ACT also recommends it over the traditional paper/pencil application. In order to take the December 12th test...students need to have the application submitted no later than November  6th. The only thing that students may need from me is our High School ACT code. It is 373-700. After that...students may take the ACT during the month of February, April and June. Students may also take the residual ACT at most colleges. This plan is different due to these colleges have exclusive rights to the students scores. For instance...if a student takes the ECU residual ACT; that student may not use that score when applying for any other college. It will be used for ECU application only. Students may sign up for this plan by simply asking me to get them signed up. I will take care of the arrangements and get them the information that they will need. I would like to close by letting you know that students and parents alike, may visit with me anytime about any information that they may need in relation to going to college. I can be reached at (580) 759-2503 (ext. 105). A twenty four hour notice is always appreciated. Thanks for visiting my page.

Sincerely,

Gary Johnson
